Assessment Workshop: Making a Difference in Student Learning - Assessment as a Core Strategy

Assessment Workshop
Start Day and Time:   Wednesday, February 26 at 1:00 p.m.
End Day and Time:     Friday, February 28 at 12:00 p.m.

Making a Difference in Student Learning - Assessment as a Core Strategy is a team-based workshop combining interactive concurrent sessions with mentored teamwork. Each institution is expected to send 4-8 participants who will work as a team to design an assessment project that can be implemented on campus during the year after they return from the workshop. Teams complete a pre-work assignment that outlines their plans or project and arrive at the workshop prepared to engage with an experienced assessment mentor.

This workshop is open to all member institutions of the Higher Learning Commission. It is beneficial to institutions that are seeking guidance in implementing and maintaining their assessment plans, as well to faculty and staff who are new to assessment.

Who Should Attend
Ideal teams are cross-functional including faculty, staff, and administrators. Teams should include those-such as chief academic officers, assessment directors, and assessment committee members-who are empowered to implement key strategies when they return to their institutions after the workshop. Recognizing that learning and assessment are cross-functional, many teams include representatives from student affairs, institutional research, and other areas responsible for learning and its assessment.

Previous participants report the most effective group work is done with teams of at least five participants. Each institution is expected to send 4-8 team members.

If your institution currently participates in the Academy for Assessment of Student Learning, please contact Kim Davis for more information before registering a team for this workshop.

Registration deadline is Tuesday, February 4, 2014.
